Fall Rec Soccer Update

Hello Cardiff Soccer Families,

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many unforeseen challenges and impacted so many aspects of our lives from work, school, sports and everything in between. In much the same way as school looks different this fall, our recreational soccer season will look different as well. Our recreational soccer gaming season typically runs from September to November, with practices beginning toward mid-late August. Due to city, county and state restrictions, we are currently unable to return to play in full games/competitions. Furthermore, our governing bodies, Cal South and Presidio Soccer, have moved back the fall season start date to October 3. Unfortunately, these changes drastically impact our fall recreational season, and it is with a very heavy heart that we have decided to cancel the Recreational Gaming Season this fall.

In an effort to provide an alternative soccer training opportunity to our recreational players, Cardiff Soccer is happy to announce that we will offer Recreational Training Sessions with professional coaches in a safe COVID-19 approved format. Recreational players and families will be offered a series of Recreational Training Sessions to help fill the void of our 2020 gaming season and get the kids back on the field. The Recreational Training sessions will consist of four 1.5 hour sessions, each aimed to introduce and develop the key fundamentals of soccer through fun-filled activities, competitions and games. Every participant will take home a Cardiff Soccer T-Shirt and will have the opportunity to win giveaways throughout the duration of the program. The training sessions will be open to Recreational players only and are a great way to get back on the field to improve your soccer skills, socialize, meet new friends and be active!

Ray Reza, Senior Cardiff Mustangs Competitive Coach, along with the help of Competitive coach Juan Suarez, a long time fixture in the Cardiff community and additional Cardiff Mustang Coaches, will be conducting the Recreational Training Sessions during the month of September. Participation will be limited due to staffing, COVID restrictions and field space. However, since you have already registered for the Fall Recreational Season, we are giving you the first opportunity to register and have priority to participate in this great program.

Registration will automatically close once sessions hit the maximum number of players allowed. Thank you for your understanding. Please contact with any questions.

Finally, for your equipment needs, Dicks Sporting Goods has been gracious enough to sponsor a 20% off Cardiff Soccer shopping weekend this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29th and 30th.

We hope to see you out on the fields in September, and back with us next fall season.

Thank You,

Cardiff Soccer

A Message from our President and Executive Director

Hello Cardiff Mustangs Families,

We hope this letter finds you all safe and healthy. With Governor Newsom’s recent stay-at-home orders, it likely finds most of you at home with your families all day as well. In addition, the City of Encinitas has now closed schools, fields, beaches, and even access to the ocean. Due to these extraordinary circumstances, we are also postponing traditional practices and other regular activities until further notice, including our Spring Break camp. We are also prepared to postpone our futsal program to later dates, with more details to come.

The COVID-19 virus is definitely testing the resolve of society and forcing everyone to reexamine and readjust our everyday life. As this virus has brought pain and suffering, it has also uncovered new perspectives and different ways to overcome the obstacles that we are all facing together. A recent NY Times article stated that research on children post-WWII and other historical events that forced children into quarantine has shown that the most important thing for children’s well being is routine, simple affection, and a feeling of family support and community. As schools have launched their virtual education programs, they have started to provide some of that structure, and it has brought a little more routine back into our children’s everyday lives.  We feel this moment in time is an opportunity to share the love of the beautiful game with our players in a creative and innovative way, while also providing some semblance of normalcy into their lives. We want to show them that they are still part of a team and a strong community that cares for them, not only as soccer players, but as individuals. We have always aimed to have the players take the skills they learn and traits they build and implement them in everyday life, on as well as off the field. These are just some of the many reasons why we have moved forward with our Virtual Training Program.

Our Virtual Training Program has been designed to give players an opportunity to stay fit and sharp, while maintaining their health and distance from others. The training program was created by our directors and is launching this week and next with all our teams. Every session is built around an individual player and a ball. Every touch of the ball will strengthen player confidence and comfort. This type of technical work will go a long way in building player fundamentals, as well as helping maintain fitness and good health. Just as with most things in life, the more they put into it, the more they will get out of it. The club will continue to put out videos with ball rhythms and challenge drills for kids to do on their own at home, and each team will also also have a weekly virtual Zoom session with their coach. During these sessions, coaches will be tracking and documenting each player’s touches, which will give coaches and players hard numbers to improve on each week.  Our coaches are looking forward to the opportunity to connect with players in a different way, and we remain committed to give you the best soccer experience possible while we are all navigating the current situation.

We have included a link below that shows some of the world’s most influential soccer/footballers such as Lionel Messi and Carli Lloyd promoting the 5 key steps to follow to protect our health, in line with the World Health Organization’s guidance. Players can see it’s not just Mom and/or Dad asking them to wash their hands!

Please continue to stay safe, healthy, and informed. Let’s flatten the curve, practice good hygiene, and take care of each other.  We look forward to when it’s safe to get the players back out onto the field where they belong, and we greatly appreciate all of the commitment and dedication to the sport and the community during these challenging times.

High School Tryouts

From our Executive Director, Kraig Chiles:

To our Mustang high school players,

I was born and raised in San Diego playing at every level, from rec soccer to the pros and everything in between. I’m going into my 12th professional season, and when I look back on it all there was no better time for me then high school soccer.

The bond you make with local kids in your community is unforgettable. I remember and miss it all. From the pasta parties to the bus rides back and forth to away games. These are memories that will last a lifetime.

Nothing comes without hard work and sacrifice. Players should be prepared to give every once of their energy and fight for what they want. For players in 8th grade or who are not playing high school soccer, we will make arrangements to have players practice with other teams if possible.

Please contact your coach if you have not already spoken with him.  We look forward to seeing our players back on the field with the Mustangs for their post-season State Cup preparation and play once the high school season is over.

I wish all Mustangs players good luck in upcoming tryouts and will be watching games throughout the winter.  For those who opt out of high school soccer or who don’t make their desired team, contact us. We will provide training opportunities and support in preparation for when the club season resumes.

Opening Day 2019

Opening day is a fun day for our entire league, and will be held at Ada Harris on September 8, 2019. We’ll have food, pick-up games and Cardiff Soccer swag.

Please make sure your team arrives at least 10 minutes prior to their scheduled photo time. ALL COMPETITIVE TEAMS WILL WEAR THEIR RED JERSEY AND COMPLETE UNIFORM to photo day.   The photographer will not wait for players that are late and we do not offer makeups. We have 51 rec and competitive teams this year, so please have your teams there on time with their forms filled out.  Every player receives a free league package, but each player needs to fill out a photo form to receive it.  Players can also order additional photos that day or after they receive the proofs and free league package.
